The famous geneticist, Ángel Carracedo, will be received in Brazil by Acebra and the Spanish Embassy



The Cultural Department of the Embassy of Spain in Brazil and the Association of Spanish Scientists in Brazil have the honor of inviting to Rio de Janeiro one of the greatest scientists in Spain, Prof. Dr. Ángel Carracedo, professor of Legal Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and president of the International Academy of Legal Medicine.


Our guest will give several talks at the Instituto Estadual do Cérebro Paulo Niemeyer, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and at Fiocruz in Rio de Janeiro during the week of December 6-9. Dr. Ángel Carracedo is the director of the Fundación Pública Galega de Medicina Genómica (SERGAS-Xunta de Galicia), a center where all the genomic diagnosis in Galicia is centralized with more than 35,000 patients per year. He also directs the Genomic Medicine group formed by more than one hundred researchers, nine research groups and several technological platforms.


In the scientific field he has published 8 books and more than 800 articles in international journals including numerous articles in Nature, Science, Cell, Nature Genetics, NEJM, in addition to the main journals of medical genetics, cancer and forensic medicine. His current main lines of research include genetics of cancer and childhood psychiatric diseases, rare diseases and pharmacogenomics. He is also the director of the IMPacT Genomics Program and the National Genotyping Center. He has given more than 3000 invited lectures in 70 countries and supervised about 100 PhD theses. He has received numerous awards including the King Jaime I Research Award, Adelaide Medal, Galien Medal, Gold and Silver Medal of Galicia, National Genetics Award, Police Merit Cross, Cross of Merit of the Civil Guard, Gold and Brilliant Medal of the Medical Association, Fernández Latorre Award, Prismas Award for Dissemination, Galicia Research Award, Castelao Medal, Novoa Santos Award, among many others.
